Photography is usually my initial medium that is later translated into paintings. When I take a photograph, I search for the magical moment where the light hits the object so gracefully and, in a way, gives it a new life. The photograph serves as my visual diary as well as a practice of composition and light. My painting style is composed of saturated pigments and visible brush strokes, capturing the essence of my subject. Moreover, I am interested in the study of color and natural sunlight and how the combination of the two dictates the specific mood. In my work, I aim to portray an image as something in between representational and abstract.

In my latest series of works, I focus on the juxtaposition between the interior and exterior worlds as well as the specific area where my private territory meets the outside world. This body of work incorporates themes of life, continuity, and hope through depictions of plants, flowers and windows. Just as light provides vital energy that a plant requires to grow, so too does outside light provide essential energy for the subjects and settings depicted in my works. Certainly, this time during the pandemic has forced us to stay mostly indoors; thus, the window provides a sense of hope — looking outwards to a better future — as well as light, providing us the energy to continue moving forward.
